Accountant I

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Entry level position into Financial accounting job family. Assists with the maintenance and development of financial systems for St. Alphonsus Health System. This includes the application of generally accepted accounting principles and internal controls. Areas of involvement will include financial statement preparation, budgeting, cost accounting, reimbursement, tax preparation, external and internal audits and financial systems implementation and improvement.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. MBA or CPA preferred.
2. No accounting experience necessary.
3. Demonstrated strong organizational and communication skills.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of computer based financial systems.
5. Intermediate computer skills with emphasis on word processing, database and spreadsheet programs.
6. Public accounting or health care preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Meets St. Alphonsus Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
2. Provides duties and responsibilities in several Accounting areas, such as cash, travel, reimbursements, education, expense reports, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and General Ledger.
3. Analyzes financial data using the proper application of accounting principles, financial feasibility, or cost analysis and recommends action to be taken.
4. Evaluates functions and processes to improve quality and productivity as well as efficiency in time management.
5. Assists Accountant II's in a variety of accounting assignments, such as preparing journal entries, cash balancing, review and reconciling of accounts, and compiling tax reports.
6. Provides support to the related entities of the St Alphonsus Health System.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
