This opening is an opportunity to use your media relations, writing, and collaboration skills to promote the mission of the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD).
ITD is recruiting for a Public Information Officer to join the department's Office of Communication in telling the story of one of the best transportation departments in the country.
This position will be based out of Boise, Idaho.
Candidates must have strong writing skills, experience interacting with news media, an understanding of how to use social media effectively, and the ability to develop successful outreach campaigns, facilitate public meetings and assist with internal communication.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Serve as media spokesman, develop news releases and other written or oral presentations; handles emergency communication involving crisis or unforeseen circumstances requiring research, writing, editing, and speaking; Develop, implement, and evaluate ITD social media and other public-facing outreach; Execute, facilitate and lead communication plans on ITD projects, along with managing the use of consultants/contractors on construction projects; Edit brochures, publications, and correspondences; Coordinate project and program information with a variety of community stakeholders, including other state agencies, local government and operate as a liaison on legislative activities affecting the department; Monitor and evaluate department information and public relations management policy and program decisions; Strategic advisor to management on public relations, policy, and media matters; may prepare department position statements; Develop, provide, or direct in-service information and public relations training; Coordinate, develop, and implement outreach programs/events with team members and executive leaders, along with other stakeholders; Participate in developing, implementing, and achieving the Office of Communication's strategic goals and furthering the Idaho Transportation Department's overall mission.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Good knowledge of:
organization, structure, and ethics of electronic or print news media.
Some knowledge of:
audiovisual production, to include video productions, still photography, slide shows or computer-generated graphics related to public information objectives.
Experience:
planning, developing, and implementing major public information projects; developing and making oral presentations to groups; interpreting and translating technical or specialized material into information usable by the public; producing or editing informational material using electronic word processing; gathering and preparing general interest news or writing a variety of news releases that were published or broadcast in mass media for the general public; developing, writing, and producing informational material for mass distribution and specialized audiences; overseeing contractors/vendors or supervising staff in producing publications.
