The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) has a temporary position open in Boise for an Instruction Assistant to work at the South Boise Complex. This position involves meeting one-on-one to enroll students, occasional TABE test administration, instruction, tutoring and administration of GED Qualifiers, and serves as an assistant to an academic teacher at the correctional facility. The desirable incumbent will have strong computer skills including experience in the Corrections Integrated System (CIS), the education access data base ETMS, and the Department of Education data base IMAS.

Temporary appointments made from this announcement have the potential to become permanent (classified) at the location of this announcement after serving at least one thousand forty hours (1040) of continuous employment.

Responsibilities:
Monitor class activities under the supervision of the instructor, plan lessons, monitor and appraise student learning results
Check and correct student assignments
Monitor student behavior and progress, report problems, and suggest modifications to student instruction plans
Consult with teacher and staff members on academic and behavioral planning, management, and evaluation
Deliver testing services and maintain testing supplies
Maintain student electronic records and files
Participate in staff training and professional development
Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding offenders
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Some knowledge of human behavioral management methods as related to an educational environment
Experience presenting educational materials to students in a group education setting
Experience entering and retrieving data and maintaining records using an automated record system including typing labels, lists, forms, and reports
SPECIALTY REQUIREMENT:
Willing to work in a correctional facility
HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:
Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
Having a history of law-abiding behavior
Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)

You must have the minimum level of experience or education described for each question to qualify for this position. Scoring will be based on your responses and information provided. A minimum rating of 70 is needed to pass this examination. Notification of your test results will be available online when the review process is complete.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
